League Details

How Does It Work?

As with all of ZogSports' leagues, dodgeball is co-ed. It's 6 on 6, but a team is allowed to play with 4 to reduce forfeits. When you have 6 on the court, you must have at least 2 women. (If you have only 4 players, at least 1 must be a woman.) Each "match" is round-robin, 4 games against 2 opponents, and we keep it exciting for everyone on the team through our two divisions (Casual and Extremely Casual).

What's the Cost and What's Included?

Early/regular registration will open July 26th/August 6th and close August 5th/August 20th or earlier if the league sells out. League fees are $750/850 for a team of 10-12 players ($35 for each additional player over 12 - no limit to number of players on your roster) and $80/90 for individuals (we'll get everyone on a team). ZogSports donates a percentage of our profit to charity.

Fee includes:

  • 6 regular season games
  • A heart-wrenching single elimination playoff tournament (50% of teams qualify)
  • Gym fees
  • ZogSports referee
  • One t-shirt per person on the roster
  • Equipment
  • "Prize Money" from our sponsors donated to the winning team's charity of choice
  • League administration
  • Organized Happy Hours at local bars after the games

When Does It Start and When Are the Games?

The league will begin September 14th. We play Tuesdays (about 1 game/week). All teams will play their games on a mix of game times. Your division does not determine what time you play. Games start between 6:45pm and 9:30pm.

Where Are We Playing?

All games will be in Queens gyms in great locations including:

  • PS 234 (29th Street between 30th Avenue and 30th Road)

Please note that game times, location and dates mentioned above are a very good guideline, but may change slightly.

What Are the Rules?

This is a fun recreational league. So we want everyone to play, stay involved and stay safe. The key rules are:

  • 6 on 6, 4 men and 2 women (minimum) to start. Teams may play as many as 6 women at a time
  • It's just like you remember it. A player is out when hit by a live ball, throws a ball which is caught, crosses the center line, is forced out-of-bounds avoiding a throw or is called out for a head shot
  • Players can re-enter the game after a teammate catches a live ball thrown by the opponent
  • Games are 7 minutes with a lightning round starting at 6 1/2 minutes
  • We will use special dodgeballs that really do not hurt when they hit you. We've been trying them out in the office!
  • See above for the full set of rules

Levels of Play

  • Sorta Players - Pretty good athletes, maybe played together before, but still social and laid back.
  • Casual Division - Played before? Not a bad athlete? This is the happy middle ground.
  • Extremely Casual Division - this is the pure fun division. It's for you if you're looking more for the social than the competition or consider yourself a beginner at the organized game.

ZogSports will try to accommodate all team and individual player requests for Division, but cannot guarantee all requests. We will not place a team or player more than 1 division (above or below) their original request.
