League Information

How Does It Work?

As with all of ZogSports' leagues, dodgeball is co-ed. It's 6 on 6, but a team is allowed to play with 4 to reduce forfeits. When you have 6 on the court, you must have at least 2 women. (If you have only 4 players, at least 1 must be a woman.) Each "match" is round-robin, 4 games against 2 opponents, and we keep it exciting for everyone on the team through our three divisions (Players, Casual and Extremely Casual).

What’s the Cost and What’s Included?

Early/regular registration will open January 28th and close February 15th/March 10th or earlier if the league sells out. League fees are $700/$800 for a team up to 12 players ($35 for each additional player over 12 - no limit to number of players on your roster) and $65/$75 for individuals (we'll get everyone on a team). ZogSports donates a percentage of our profit to charity.

Fee includes:

  • 6 regular season games
  • A heart-wrenching single elimination playoff tournament (50% of teams qualify)
  • Gym fees
  • ZogSports referee
  • One t-shirt per person on the roster
  • Equipment
  • "Prize Money" from our sponsors donated to the winning team's charity of choice
  • League administration
  • Organized Happy Hours at local bars after the games

When Does it Start and When Are the Games?

The league will begin March 18th. We play Tuesday evenings with games starting between 7:00-9:00pm.  Your division does not determine which time you play.

Where Are We Playing?

All games will be in Astoria, Queens at a great new school gym:

  • PS 235 Academy for New Americans - 30-14 30th Street

Please note that game times, location and dates mentioned above are a very good guideline, but may change slightly.

.

What Are the Rules?

This is a fun recreational league. So we want everyone to play, stay involved and stay safe. The key rules are:

  • 6 on 6, 4 men and 2 women (minimum) to start. Teams may play as many as 6 women at a time
  • It's just like you remember it. A player is out when hit by a live ball, throws a ball which is caught, crosses the center line, is forced out-of-bounds avoiding a throw or is called out for a head shot
  • Players can re-enter the game after a teammate catches a live ball thrown by the opponent
  • Games are 7 minutes with a lightning round starting at 6 1/2 minutes
  • We will use special dodgeballs that really do not hurt when they hit you. We've been trying them out in the office!
  • For full set of rules, see link at top of page.

Levels of Play

  • Players Division - Think you're a jock? This division will be competitive, but still fun.
  • Sorta Players - Pretty good athletes, maybe played together before, but still social and laid back.
  • Casual Division - Played before? Not a bad athlete? This is the happy middle ground.
  • Extremely Casual Division - this is the pure fun division. It's for you if you're looking more for the social than the competition or consider yourself a beginner at the organized game.
ZogSports will try to accommodate all team and individual player requests for Division, but cannot guarantee all requests. We will not place a team or player more than 1 division (above or below) their original request.
